Digital Collage (Week 2)

In this work, I described my feelings of the 2 weeks in New York: I travelled across the hemisphere and came to a new environment, here I was broken and reorganized, I saw the prosperity of Manhattan, appreciated the great art works, but also experienced the loneliness of being away from family and friends. September 17th is the traditional Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival, the day of reunion. Therefore, I refer to the full moon as the festival in my work. No matter who you are, no matter where it is, everyone is apprecating the full moon at this moment. According to my inspiration, I searched for my own photos and related images, cut and spliced them in procreate. I placed the moon and Manhattan at the center of vision in several images of a "look", both artistic and reflective of the theme of appreciating the moon. At the same time, I used a map of the world as a background to show a sense of vastness. I really had fun in the process of this design. It gives me space to imagine

On/off experiment

We are living in the information age and are surrounded with a lot of messages every day, except for sleeping time. In the on / off experiment, I got the chance to leave technology and really embrace life. I explored New York with my friend, but this time I would't use my phone. This made me uncomfortable at first, because I usually keep my phone in my hand when I go out, and this time with my hands empty, I felt like I'm partly missing. But soon I adapted to this "emptiness," because there was no interference from eletronic devices, I could devote myself to perceive the colorful world. As I walked down the street, I could notice many details I had never seen before. Without a map guidance, we wandered the streets and encountered many surprises. Finally I asked my friend to take a photo of a suprising moment as a record of this experiment, because I decided not to use my phone this time. It was a valuable experience for me, which allowed me to touch the world outside

About me

Hi!! This is Ran from Comm&Edu, Teachers College, Columbia University. I am passionate about exploring the world through colors and lines, capturing moments and emotions that are hard to describe in words. I like animation, so most of my works are more cartoonish, with bright colors and exaggerated lines. I believe that art can break the limits of language and use visual elements to convey unique stories. Every color, every line, carries my observations and thoughts about the world, showing the deepest feelings of my soul. I have some experiences of designing intellectual property image for some specific companies and making posters, which gave me more understandings of new media. In my teaching experience, I am committed to guiding students to observe and perceive the world, discover their own interests and passions. True learning should come from individuals' inner drive, not external compulsion. Therefore, I encourage students to explore, consider, and develop their own lear
